The least exciting day so far

I don’t even know how to start off today because a) it was more boring that most days, and b) I’ve had a little too much pear cider at The Angel. It’s gooooooood!

Today we had class at Anglo American, and of course Sara and I got off at the wrong tube station, but luckily we made it there with enough time to go and get some much-needed coffee. We talked about sketching and then sat in Bloomsbury square and, well, sketched. Then we went to the British Museum and saw mummies and sculptures from the Parthenon in Greece! It was so neat to see that stuff up close! After the museum we were supposed to go on what we thought was an hour or so tour of brick lane with this architecture lady that Susan’s husband Douglas knows. Well we get there and she lets us know that the tour is supposed to last 4 hours. 4 HOURS!! It wouldn’t have been bad, except she wasn’t entertaining at all and it felt like I was intruding on a conversation between her and Douglas. Brick lane is really cool though—it’s the hip, young, artsy neighborhood in London apparently. The tour was SO boring that we just kind of hung near the back and took silly pictures and goofed off. Sara (not my roommate) and I ducked out about halfway through the tour by hiding behind a building. We took off because she needed a new camera before we go on our boat trip to Greenwich tomorrow. Why did she need a new camera, you ask? Because when she asked me to take a picture of her in the London Eye, I misjudged the distance between our hands when I tried to hand it back to her and it dropped and broke. Luckily she got a brand new hot pink camera and I’m helping her pay a little for the repairs for the one that broke. Problem solved.

After the tour and the camera purchase we decided to take a drink to a park near to our flats and sit by the water and hang out with each other. We had a great time just goofing off and getting to know each other even more—this group of folks I’m with here is so fun! After the park security came by and asked us to leave because he had to lock the gates we decided to go back to the Angel for more drinks. Hence the shorter entry today. We have a great time together, and for some reason English men love to come and talk to us! And once again I found another redhead. Surprise, surprise… The girls thought it was hilarious that I was talking to anther ginger, named CJ who was very nice by the way, that they documented it with a photo. Ridiculous. He was really adorable and said that he would “Facebook me straight away” when he got home. He went to the University of Kansas actually—but I hope he forgets my name because I’m not trying to meet up with any strange British gingers…

Today was tiring—I think I walked all day starting at about 8:30 this morning without much stopping. My feet are SO DIRTY at the end of everyday from the tube station dust and from the streets. It’s so nasty!

Oh—but we did book our coach to Windsor Castle and made our plans to go to Hampton Court Castle today—all the trips are going to cost less that £100!! I’m so excited! AND we got free tickets to a polo match on Friday! We’re going to get all dressed up because there’s going to be royalty and celebrities and all kinds of beautiful people! London is great—but it’s wearing me out!

More tomorrow,
Whitney
